Debian 8.3.0 on Powerbook G4

Hello all! I'm new to Linux, and I just installed Debian 8.3.0 on my Powerbook G4 550 Titanium (512K memory). Everything went smoothly, although it took a few hours. I installed from a DVD, without an internet connection.

I chose GNOME, LXDE, and CINNAMON from the UI list.

After install, my DVD was ejected, and I restarted. Its fine until it gets to the desktop, which is black, with a large (screen-wide) white splotch, that moves from the top of the screen to the bottom, then fades to black.

I can't see cursor, or anything at this point. Did I miss something?

thanks for your time.
Mark

Not certain, but I'd bet it has something to do with the Radeon mobility graphics card. Driver support with older ATI/AMD graphics is iffy at best, and I know many of the posts for PPC Macs with linux are graphical issues due to the ATI cards.

Thank you for your reply. I actually tried installing with the same DVD with internet support, with the same result (2 hours later). Can you recommend a distro that WILL work with my Powerbook? I can change to a more recent Powerbook g4 if necessary, but I thought it would be really cool to use my old titanium and have up-to-date OS on it.

Yellow Dog Linux has been popular with PPC Mac users for years.

Other than that, it's pretty much Debian or NetBSD.
