Debian 5.0.4 APT configuration (SOLVED)

Hello,

I have just set up the above OS, however, installation did not find my network and therefore APT additional software & security updates could not be accessed.

The network was simple to setup post installation.

Could I please have the steps involved in setting a working APT in this situation.

I have uncommented a few sources in the sources list file but obviously that does not, in itself, suffice to get accessability. I am also unable to configure my supported HP printer and I assume that can only be done with an additional package via APT

Post your sources.list and take a look at your post on forums.debian.net or just take a look at the Giant sources.list in my signature.

Hello All,

Well the issues are thankfully now resolved. The problem was twofold.

Even though installation said that network setup was successful, APT could nevertheless not be configured, or used to download updates during the install process. I turns out that my Smoothwall 3 Dansguardian firewall filter was denying access.

Secondly, downloading the cd2 iso disk and using it during the install process resulted in the further availability of 796 packages & 200 files. My original setup was so unfriendly that there had to be missing components!.

The only downside is that although I now have a desktop printer interface and my HP printer is recognised (as ready) it will not print. That needs to be the subject of another thread.

I would like to thank you all for your time and your contributions.

Brenton
