Debian 3.0 woody problems
I install debian 3.0 woody and everything works fine, until I try to boot up. The X server doesnt work, gdm, xdm or kdm. What am I doing wrong. I have an nvidia geforce 5200 fx

Not a big fan of debian, but have you checked
whether a) the /etc/X11/XF86Config makes sense and b) what happens if you type startx? Is X installed properly in the first place? Cheers, Tink |
I would look at installing the nvidia driver.

Before you get yourself in the trouble of drivers and other stuff.... For now just forget about it...
At the comman line as root type: ~# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 When you get to the part of the video driver choose 'VESA' !!!!!! That will get your xserver working for now, and that as a newbie is a big help, from there you can now browse the web for answers within your linux. [edit] For future help in this forums we would need you to paste here your '/var/log/Xfree86.0.log' If you want to manually edit your config file, the correct one to edit is '/etc/X11/XF86config-4' |
I got the same problem but my one is old laptop (armanda 4120t) if u don't mind can you post the content of xf86config-4, pls especially for TFT LCD
