dd makes bad copy of data dvd
Hi,
TTNot sure if two months using Linux still qualifies me a s a newbie, but I think I must be doing something very simple or obvious wrong. I'm using centOS4.4, and need to restrict myself to using dd i.e. mkisofs (etc) is not an option at the moment. I've followed several examples indicating the following will make an exact copy a dvd ()not this is a data dvd, no encryption etc): dd if=/dev/hdb of=/tmpt/mycopy.iso or dd if=/dev/hdb of=/tmpt/mycopy.iso bs=2048 In both case the dd completes without reporting any error. However when I open the iso file, by double clicking on the iso file using Gnomes file browser, I see several things that are incorrect: 1) The file name T200609T.IDX doesn't exist, i.e. there is an file icon there but no name, and the size doesn't match the original. 2) The file T200609T.BIN dosen't exist (or these file maybe interchanged) 2) Other file names have ';1' appended to them....? I can browse the dvd without any problem in Linux. I'm at a total loss - I haven't seen anyone else report a similar problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance |

Code:
mount -t iso9660 <some mount point> <filename.iso> |
should actually be "mount -t iso9660 -o loop <some mount point> <filename.iso>"
