I am guessing (you give VERY little info) that somewhere on your filing system, as root, you need to do
chmod a+rw database.file.that.gives.permission.error
This will make the file writable by EVERYBODY, which might not be a good idea.
MySQL for example, creates a MySQL -user- who owns the database files and directories, making them accessible only to itself, which is much more secure that what I suggest here.
Perhaps your database program (whatever it is) is not correctly installed or set up?

What database? MySQL? PostgreSQL? What exactly are you trying to do? Setup a database? Move one from another system? Configure a Samba -password- database? A database for what?
If you want accurate, correct help please give more, and more accurate info as to just what your are attempting to accomplish or where the problem crops up.

Default mode? Maybe if you go for the custom or expert mode, and install EVERYTHING. I've noticed with Rh9 (it's old, I know) that it is much better to take the expert mode, and choose what you install. I've some package that won't compile in a "standard" installed Rh9 - maybe this RPM permission problem is something similar?
