Data recovery from a digital camera

Basically, where do i start? I have no idea about this and all my google searches relate to windows software, i downloaded a couple of programs and tried them through wine but wine seems to have trouble finding my camera. Is there a linux way and where could i find smome more info about it? Its a samseung camera with an sd card, and when i came back from holliday it said the card was blank but i'd filled it the day before. Thanks in advance. Brynn

That type of storage device will commonly be VFAT-formatted. The first thing to do would be trying to make Linux "see" the device whichever way available to you (SDcard slot, USB et cetera) and make a backup of the device using 'dd' before doing anything else. Trying to "repair" the device before making a backup is *not* the best approach.

Maybe you didn't search Linuxquestions.org for it? If you use terms like "undelete file", "recover jpeg" or look for threads that mention 'photorec' you'll find software plus instructions.
