I don't think I've ever felt so incompetent with a computer. I've killed my third install now, and I have NO idea why.I was just installing the dependencies to begin trying Dasher again, and it refused to boot. Is there a system restore or a repair disc I don't know about? Just anything faster than doing a full reinstall.

I wouldn't even be mad if I had ANY idea what causes the bricking to occur. Really readjusts your thinking that you're good with computers. :\

Sorry for the delay. Been in bed with sinus migraine's.
There isn't a system restore or repair disc for a VM that I know of.

Before you do a fresh VM installation delete the machine or machines that you already created so that the only machine that exist's is the new one you have just made.

Since it refused to boot, did it give you a error message or any indication of why it wouldn't boot?

What VM are you using? Virtual Box?

Boxes is much easier to work with BTW-

If this installation croaks, I will definitely give Boxes a try. I've been less than enchanted with Virtualbox.
I mean, if you told 10 year old me that I would be able to run a Linux install inside Windows without the risk of FUBARing everything, I would tell you the future is a magical place.

I'm only using VB because the course told me to. I think I have enough understanding of virtual machines now that I could set up Boxes without the course.
I'm USUALLY a quick study, despite the fact that I can't seem to install the one damn application I actually need.
I'm going to take one more crack at it nowish. Wish me luck.

I've used VBox for a while and I'm not fond of it. I like Boxes far better as it has less red tape to go through to set up the machine.

Try using the command-line utility and install things that way.

Here's a tutorial about Boxes-

Good Luck:-

Well, I don't quite believe it, but I got it to work. You're right in a way: it was a command line installation. I had tried "apt-get install dasher" a few times but always got a "Not found, but the package is referenced in other packages... etc."

So at the risk of borking my installation again, I added all the depreciated Kali repositories to the sources.list, and it worked without a single hiccup!

Thank you so much for your advice, especially when you're feeling like crap. Just the process of troubleshooting taught me a ton.

Glad you got it working!

Your Welcome-:)

Enjoy your fresh install and Dasher.
