DarkStar login: why isn't it booting into KDE


i have recently installed slackware 9.1 and configured lilo to boot /dev/hda
when i boot the computer it shows the lilo boot interface and then goes to DarkStar login:.....i log in as root....with my password. I was wondering how i start the KDE

well I do not have slack. experience, however runlevel i things all the same on every distro.
currently you are in runlevel 3 and wana 5 the graphical

open the file inittab

# vi /etc/inittab


id:3:initdefault: (search for line and very carefully change 3 to 5)

The other way to do this is to configure you X systems with the xf86config command (this sets up your video drivers) then select your X environment with xwmconfig. Once you've got X properly set up, you can get to your graphical environment any time you want with the startx command.

Don't change the default runlevel to 5, it is 4 in Slack. Either way should work.

thanks for all your help....but now im having trouble using xf86config....when i finished using xf86config and type startx i get this errors that says screen not found

Try changing your configuration a little till you get it right.
Tools for configuring X:
xf86config
xf86cfg
xf86setup

Thank you guys for all your help...i finally got my system up and running....i just would like to ask one more favor....i have a logitech mouse plugged into a usb slot.......i am wondering how i can set up slack so i can use my mouse.

ok nvm that post i figured out how to get my mouse working....well thanx to all that helped (a n00b in need) me.
