Dabien with ubuntu: jubject: pointer, starts going all over the moniter

My pointer goes all over and is closing screens and/or opening other programs. Plus I have no control over anything when this is happening. Sometimes I can resume what I was doing but first I have to close the program/windows that it has open and/or have to open the programs it has closed. The other times; every thing freezes except, the mouse pointer, but I can't do anything with it. Can't open, close, use commands or use the standard shutdown procedure. Have to use the ctrl+alt+delete or shutdown by the power button on the computer. Can any one help me. newbie

Wierd.
Is it just random or does it seem to be moving with a purpose - I mean if it's opening/closing windows and doing stuff that sounds kindof like some scary remote administration thing. Though that's very unlikely.
Your mouse may also be broken. What happens when you unplug it?

Problem solved:

After several weeks of trying every thing haha.
Solution was the mouse and the port [SERIAL].
New mouse with USB.

Thank you for the support and suggestions.
