Have you got the documentation for the router? It should give you the factory settings the router was shipped with. It will tell you what IP address to set your system to, or if the router will work with DHCP out of the box.
What network card do you have in your PC? A wired ethernet card or a wireless card? Some machines have
both. if you have a wired one, just plug a ethernet cable from your card to the router. There are lights on the router ports, see the doc on how to read them. There is usually a led light on an ethernet card. If the cable is good, and you activate the ethernet card, the light on the card should come on, usually green.
Wireless connections need some setting up.
To help sort out the cards, and drivers etc. open a console, run the command as root, 'lspci -vv' and cut and paste the results for the card(s) you have. That will tell us the hardware.
Next, as root run the command 'lsmod' and post the results. That will show any drivers that are loaded. ( All commands without quotes ).
Has the router ever worked with any other system, or is this a new purchase?
Post as much information as you can find, and we'll go from there.
