CVS w/ Mandrake9.1, Proxy thru WinMe

Hello! I am a :newbie:, I don't know very much about Linux, but I've been doing a lot of reading over the past few weeks. Please don't be too brief with your answers, the more details the better! Thanks much for your time and energy!

I have Mandrake Linux 9.1 and I want to access the internet through my dad's computer, which is running Winblows Me and has a satellite connection. I only need to access the web and be able to get updates with CVS.

Some Details:
There are some weird DNS problems with our satellite ISP, but I've been able to circumvent these for CVS by using actual IP addresses for source forge instead of the conventional address names. The reason I mention this is because I read a post by a member here that said CVS would not work through a proxy because of DNS complications. What's the deal here?

I already have a proxy server running on my dad's computer, and I'm posting this from my second computer, which is also running winMe and is configured to use the the proxy. It was very easy to set up the proxy connection for IE. The proxy server's address is 192.168.0.1. So I figure that all I have to do now is configure Linux. What should I do first? When I installed Linux I used the Net Configuration thingy, but I didn't know what to put for "host name", so I put 192.168.0.1. For my computer--a.k.a. eth0's IP, yes?--I put 192.168.0.3, since the computer I'm on right now is x.x.0.2.

circumvent proxy

(sorry for being so brief)

There is a project on sourceforge called cvsgrab.
Check it out, it updates your cvs stuff (works on many sites) through the web interface rather than the cvs port, completely circumventing a firewall rule or proxy difficulty.

In other words, if you can pull up a html viewCvs form, you can update your cvs through the proxy.

If your proxy sux on winme, try taking a look at analogx.com
they have a free proxy that works pretty good for such a chinsey small program.
