CVS and cron jobs

Greetings ...

I am trying to do some CVS checkouts and commits automatically with cron jobs.

The jobs are bash scripts run as root that call commands like 'sudo -u cvsuser cvs commit'

When I run the scripts from the command line (as root) everything is groovy, but the cron job outputs msgs like

cvs checkout: No CVSROOT specified! Please use the `-d' option
cvs [checkout aborted]: or set the CVSROOT environment variable.

Any ideas? The environment variables have been set up for root and cvsuser...

You have to set the CVSROOT variable,

typically doing this just means defining the environment variable :

$ export CVSROOT=roto:host.domain.tld:/cvs-home-directory

if you use extssh as protocol, chances are that you'll also have to define CVS_RSH like this :

$ export CVS_RSH=ssh

Hope it helps

Thanks! I did have the env variables definbed as you describe, and the funny thing was that the scripts ran fine from the command line. I solved the problem by just adding the -d /cvs_root_dir to the cvs commands in the script.
