customizing Hiren's BootCD interface, or UI output....
I have dl'd Hiren's BootCD 9.8, and it works great!
Now I'm trying to modify the UI font color to something like amber on a black background (easier on my eyes in the environment I'm working in).
I've tried to edit the "boot.img" file from (+cyan/black) to (yellow/black), or (blue/black), or (red/black) using notepad.exe and similar text editors in combination with UltraISO, then saved and re-gzipped it to repack the "boot.gz" (that gunzips to "boot.img" as it did originally), but I can't get the color on the menus to change at all.
My editing results:
either the bootcd errors out at bootup, or it boots up with the original color setting (+cyan/black).
The .iso came with a "keyboard patch" that modifies the .iso, and the Hiren.info site provides step-by-step directions for using the CD on a USB stick so I don't believe the entire .iso is checksummed, but either I'm doing something incorrectly, or the "boot.img" file is checked for a specific checksum or ?
Can somebody help me with this? I am NOT a programmer, and I've Googled for several weeks trying to chase down solutions, but without success.
If it is not possible to modify the Hiren BootCD files, would it be possible to put a GUI front end on it to handle the output and allow customization? If so, how would I do that?
My ULTIMATE goal is to setup a MULTIBootUSB with a KNOPPIX-like GUI.
Thank you for your assistance.
