custom visual effects


have ive just installed mint 7. i have a problem when i try and select custom visual effects. when i click on it, it says desktop effects could not be enabled . . could someone please help me or send me to a similar thread . .
and sorry for all these newbie posts

This is usually caused by your system not having a required display property. There are many special display characteristics at present, and not all of them are supported by all display drivers or video adaptors.

could i try and download divers for my graphics card? or am i way off the mark? lol
oh and how do i tell what graphics card i have

thanks for the replies ive got it sorted now, i just had to activate the ATI/AMD option in the hardware drivers window
