Custom kernel does not have module support for PCI card

Hi guys, I have a problem ;)

I am running Fedora 8 (Stuck with this version because of driver limitations!) with a Pentek data aquisition card in a custom kernel. The system was functional but spontaniously stopped working today. I am getting the following when I use the command to turn on the Pentek card:

"Fatal Error: kernel does not have module support"

I enabled module support in the .config and I can see that the correct modules are installed. Also, as mentioned before, the same system was previously working. At this point, I am unsure how to proceed and I need help :P

Not sure if this is relevant but when I boot up the computer, I also see the following:
"PCI: device 0000:03:1b.0 has unknown header type 6f, ignoring."
This message was not present before the problem presented.

Thank you in advance!
Sheila

Could the PCI device have finally stopped working?

Hey,what would usually cause something like that to happen?
Thank you!

Run it in a virtual machine with isa.
