cursor unable to detect icons on screen

Hi all,
I have installed ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop. But whenever I keep the cursor on any desktop icon like folder or tabs of some windows it fails to detect the icon and hence i am not able to click it.The minimize maximize buttons are also not recognised and I have to use keyboard shortcut. Is there anything wrong with the system itself? Its a slightly old one having p4 processor and 1 gb ram.please help.

Cool

Look I understand you maybe new to linux and linuxquestions.org....

Simply put!

We need a lot more info then your giving us...

For Starters answer the following in order....

1. Model, Make and Graphics card on laptop...
2. Your Experience level with linux how long...
3. Can you install packages without a graphical user interface such as termianl..
4. Do you know how to use google to search for anything and everything???
5. Do you watch youtube videos on linux???

6. Did you use Ubuntu forums to search for specific related issues with the mouse your using and the laptop model???

Now that is the basics for understanding your ability in linux and resolving problems in the short term...

Now you may get a response on this website from a user that has a similar laptop and it might just cost you 5 bucks and pick up a cheap usable mouse....

I am not sure weather to tell you this is mouse driver issue or this is a setup is with ubuntu... I have to get more of a story from you to fill in the blanks...

Please give us details to help you...

Most important give us the make and model of that mouse....

Thank you....
