CUPS-PDF not working

I have downloaded the cups-pdf-2.5.XX.tar.gz package and followed the instructions from the README file provided with it. But when I tried to print it from a file, the lpstat -t command and the printer icon in the panel shows no problem, but I could not see any directory that contains the output pdf file...

According to the Readme file, it says, by default it will print to /var/spool/cups-pdf directory, but actually it prints to /var/spool/cups that too in the following names:
c00012 c00013 c00014, but not in pdf format....pls let me know where i am going wrong..

According to my cups-pdf.conf, the default is /var/spool/cups-pdf/${USER}

Do you get any messages in your cups log file?

Do you have ghostscript installed?

No. ghostscript is not installed...Should that be installed too...??? The log file does not give any error messages..

I was under the impression that cups-pdf used ghostscript to create its pdfs. I'll try and have a look today some time.

Edit - looking at the cups-pdf page here http://www.cups-pdf.de/documentation.shtml, it looks to me like you need ghostscript installed. Doesn't actually seem to list dependencies.
