Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

Please post distribution/version running and the model number of your printer. Newer models require a plugin which is installed using the hp-setup utility. Depending on which distribution/version running you might need to install the latest version of hplip to support your printer.

You don't mention the distro you are using nor how you installed cups, etc. So, if you have not done so I would recommend downloading the latest HPLIP installer from HP. Remove or attempt to remove the currently installed version. I suggest this because I use Mint and, like Ubuntu, the one they install seems to be limited at best, broken at worst. Removing it and installing the one from HP seems to fix whatever problem there is with that. Once it is installed, the last thing it offers to do is setup printers. Either do so, or quit and as others have suggested run hp-setup and install your printer. It should then work. Of course there is always Murphy, but this procedure always works for me. One of the things the installer does is install a version of cups which, I understand, in turn installs its own version of lp/lpr.

Hi,

This issue is solved after cross compiling the HPLIP source for my arm platform and used those binaries in my RFS.

Thanks for everyone suggestion.
