Ctrl-click not working to select multiple files; selects a few then resets selection

Fedora9 64 bit - problem just started yesterday. Does it in VMWare XP that I run, as well as the normal Fedora 9 that is my actual OS.

I'm at a loss. I've reset my keyboard to a 105 layout instead of my maker of the keyboard, Logitech. Nothing is helping.

*Edit - apparently changing my window manager from Compiz to Metacity has fixed it. So, it's something wrong with compiz. But I haven't set any conflicting keybindings....so I wonder what is the problem!?

Wrong

It still happens in Metacity. I've got a new keyboard and tried it with it, and it still happens.

It's as if the signal for the control key is getting cut off. For example, if I am selecting a bunch of files with Ctrl-drag, it selects a bunch of them, but after a few seconds it resets the selection.

Does anyone have a clue about this?

no solution - only a question:
Compiz as a window manager in a virtual machine? And it works?

No - I'm running Fedora 9 64 bit as a base, and the XP is in the virtual machine.

Also I found out the real problem: my mouse is interrupting my keyboard events. I can't fix it, and I am going to start a new thread since it's different.

For example if I type ssssssssssssssss and move the mouse during it, the typing stops until the mouse is stopped moving - and then the ssss continues.
