cron question

On my rh9 linux box, if I use crontab -e to set up a crontab file for root, will the /etc/crontab file still run as well? Or do I need to copy over all the statements from the main /etc/crontab to the version specified for root?

No, you don't need to copy over the system crontabs. They don't have anything to do with the user's crontabs (not even root's) so they will still run.
