Creating Slide shows and editing avi files in Ubuntu

G'day.
I am running Ubuntu 9.04. I have installed every UbuntuStudio, available through 'Synaptic Package Manager'.
Before I moved across to Ubuntu, my hobbies were turning family photo's and home filmed video's into television shows.
I have made Ubuntu read and play most audio and video type's
(of course, microsoft has some that it won't let go of).
My main problem is finding one peice of software that will let me make slide shows with added audio. Just like I used to do in "Windows Movie Maker"

Ubuntu 9.04 leaves winXP and vista for dead.
BUT
I want to play with my pictures and video's.
Has any-one know of linux software to fix my problem.
Rgards.

I use DVD slideshow. Here is the link.

I suspect you will find it in the repos for Ubuntu, I did use buntu's for a while. Mandy has it....

This isn't the easiest set of tools to use, but they work. It is mostly command line... I have made many slide shows and burned them to CD's ( not DVD's ) so mo comment on the DVD part of it...

G'day Camorri. Thankyou.

Yes I found it in Ubuntu repos and installed it.
Where did it go? I can't find it in 'Applications'

I use todisc, part of the tovid packgae.

Tovid and todisc lets you make DVDs movies from your videos with animated thumbnails and photo slides. You can also add music to the background.

The tovid package includes tovidgui. A GUI front-end if you don't want to use the commandline.

type tovidgui -s from a terminal to launch a simple gui.

type tovidgui -f for a fancier gui, here you will find tabs to
create a DVD photoslide show.

You might take a look in the Main Menu editor (System->Preferences) to see if it's 'hidden'. That just happens sometimes.

Cheers

Yeah Bill. It is in 'other' thanks.

I think I have found the one for me (for now anyway). "QDVDAuthor". I'm still working through it, but, so far it looks good for both pictures and movies.
Thanks Every-one.
