Creating KDE desktop shortcuts
I was wondering how to create KDE desktop shortcuts? From what I understand at the very least you need the name of the exe for your icon. How do you find out the relating exe name?

Well, if you are refering to programs with a .exe extension you won't find many of those in linux distros, unless you're using Wine of course.
I personally find the command "slocate" handy for finding paths to files related to an application. You could try the "which" command aswell. A recent tip I read here on the forum for finding out which programs are installed is to press [TAB] three times (while focus is on a shell) to list them all. Hope that helps. |
hi,
the other way, if you wish to make a shortcut for an item which is already on your 'k' menu, is to simply click and drag the name of the application on to the desktop. a little context menu will pop up - choose 'link here' and voila, it'll appear on your desktop! similar functionality also exists in gnome... |
and most of the programs are in /usr/bin

but what if a program doesn't show up on the k menu...?
