Creating floppy to boot Mandriva

Hey guys, I have my Mandriva installed along with WinXP, but the problem is that I have a wireless keyboard and when I am in any bootloader, LILO or GRUB, my keyboard does not work. Does anyone know any way to make a floppy that will boot me to linux?

Thanks, Tom

I'm assuming that you have grub on the mbr now. It's hard to see how putting it on a floppy will make any difference. If Grub cant run your keyboard, then having it on a floppy won't affect that.

Have you been able to boot Mandrake by ANY method--eg rescue mode from CD?
Do you have a regular legacy keyboard you can try?
If you can get to /boot/grub/menu.lst, maybe you can make Mandrake the default so the keyboard is not required during boot.

Did Mandrake detect your keyboard during install?

Well I did set up Mandrake as default, but now I cannot get on windows and I need to. When I put the CD in, I cannot press enter or F1 and I have to upgrade or reinstall Mandrake to get on it once I change windows to be default. It detected my keyboard once installation started, but it detected it as a default keyboard. I was wondering if I just could set up windows as default, and then use a floppy to boot Mandrake, is that possible with the new Mandrake?

Thanks, Tom

How to create a bootdisk in Mandriva: http://doc.mandrivalinux.com/Mandrak...-bootdisk.html

A floppy .. disk? No, they're called CDs and DVDs in the 21st century...

If you blindly installed Linux and find yourself now cut-off from Windows and need to get back, the Windows installation-CD can take you there. This will not destroy your Linux installation, but it will temporarily isolate you from it.

Now, go back and :study: study the installation docs. There is very extensive material on this site about "dual-booting Windows," and how it's done, and what your various options are, such as having a second hard-disk. You need to review that material before trying again.

sundialsvcs: You probably misunderstood what I wrote. I am on Linux, I have dual boot, but the problem is that in LILO I cannot choose between linux or windows. I set up linux as default thats why it always boots me there, and once I change windows to default, I will be able to boot only windows since I cannot choose linux. That was the problem.

tkedwards, helped me, I created bootable floppy disk and everything is fine :)

Thanks, Tom

This sounds a bit strange - LILO should be able to handle Linux and Windows fine, it does on my pc. You can set it up through the Mandrake Control Centre: http://doc.mandrivalinux.com/Mandrak.../drakboot.html

Anyway if you're happy with the bootdisk then that's fine, glad to be of help.

It handles everything well, but my keyboard does not work in it. It is keyboard's fault that I cannot choose between linux or windows. It just does not work in LILO or anything else. It works in windows or linux but not in any bootloader.
