How do i create a database for Phpbb2 installation to complete?

mysqladmin -u <user> -p create my_phpbbdb
Replace <user> with the user you connect to MySQL as.

having problems getting mysql to start

cant connect to local mysql server through socket /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock (2)

check that mysqld is running and that the socket /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock exists!.. what do i do im lost

Well for starters MySQL needs to be running before you can create tables or do anything of use with it.

Most distributions provide an init script to start MySQL. Try /etc/init.d/mysql start (as root) if the mysql script exists in /etc/init.d. Many distributions also have a control panel applet or a separate tool for managing system services, where you can define what services should be started.
