Can somebody please tell me how to create a screen shot in Linux?

I'm running Red Hat Linux 6.2, and I'd just like to paste a screen shot into the Gimp. My question is how do I "capture" or copy the contents of my screen to begin with?

I've tried PrtScn, Alt-PrtScn, Ctrl-PrtScn, and Ctrl-Alt-PrtScn. None of these seem to do the job.

Thanks very much,

Actually I use GIMP to create my screenshots. They even have a utility to give you how many seconds before it takes the snap. Go through the options in GIMP, I can't remember exactly where the option is in it right now, at my sorry NT computer at work.

Smile Cool! Thanks!

Thanks again for your help, trickykid!

I did not know that screen shot functionality was provided within the Gimp itself. (For example, in Windows one uses some combination of Ctrl or Alt with PrtScn to copy the desktop, before pasting into the graphics application of one's choice (e.g., PaintBrush).)

Thanks for the clue!

Just printscreen by itself works.

That fails in Linux? Bugger.
