Question creating a remote volume in a directory in Linux

How to create a remote volume in a directory in Linux ?
Can communicate remote linux and windows machines in the network.
Working on Ubuntu 10 x32(where remote volume is to be created)
I heard we can create using CIFS or NFS , how can we acheive it ?
Please help, thanks.

for linux and windows shares you have to look into setting up samba.
