Courier IMAP Server

Hi

I am new here. Well, I need help with Courier. I am able to install but when I try telnet localhost 143 nothing happens. I am sure it is a configuraton problem. But Courier Documentation is not helping me debug this. I have researched the web and the courier-imap newgroup but no luck.

Also, my install don't have any ./sbin/courier or pop3d as I read so maybe the install was bad...

ps shows the Daemon running. I also did not find any 'test' user in the home dir nor maildir...

Could anyone explain How to install - Configure this? I am used to Apache, PHp configure and make but I am 'new' regarding mail servers and IMAP.

TIA

I am using Redhat 9

Did you configure xinetd aftwerwards?

well you could try to run nmap (http://insecure.org) to se if the port is open

xinetd may not help becasue by default it runs as a daemon.

if you grep your ps output for courier you should find around 6-8 processes (depending on wether or not you are running ssl or not), a bunch are called authdaemond, there should be a couriertcpd and a logger

but first things first, get nmap do a port scan an see what you get (you can use netstat -a is you don;t want to get nmap, but nmap is so handy i would recommend it regardless).
