Couple of simple usability questions...

Two, supposedly simple, questions:

Firstly, when I start linux my numlock is off and my insert is on, I want this opposite way around. Where can I change the startup preferences for insert and num lock?

Secondly, bit more complicated, I would really like to be able to right click in a directory in gnome folder browser and choose an option like "open terminal here". Would come in soo handy. Is this fairly simple? How would I go about adding this?

Cheers for any help,

Oh and one more.

How can I start a program from a terminal without 'locking' the terminal, that is, how can I start, say, gedit, and still be able to use the terminal?

gedit &
The & puts the process in the background, freeing up the terminal.
