Could not open folder ... Nautilus file manager is not running?
 

Just bought a Acer aspire one on linux and have no idea how too work it.

My problem is that to connect the net book to the internet i need the mac address (i think) as it doesnt connect to my security protected network.

When i go to run ifconfig to find the address it says the following:
Could not open folder /sbin.
The nautilus file manager is not running.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

Could somebody reply back even if its to say that no one else has had this problem?

I have the same problem as all my files won't open. I receive an error message when i try to open any file: "nautilus file manager not running" please can anyone help us here? Thanks in advance.

Can you provide more info like which Linux distribution and which version you are using? IIRC, Aspire One is a netbook. Therefore it might be running a netbook specific distro which might be why you get the nautilus error. Also mention whether you have access a terminal on your system.

just a quick google search for the distro shows that it is running linpus linux lite (based off of Fedora 8)

From Wikipedia "The default desktop environment has been designed to hide advanced features from the user and to prevent modification."

It looks like a terminal may be the best way to go here...

bret381 is right. Iuse a Linpus Linux Lite with version 1.0.21.E.
I have access to terminal but i don't know most of the codes used in corrections and configurations. I'm new to linux.

Thanks Mirchichamu. I did check that link but it didn't help much. I ran that command "ismod" with and without the question mark but i got a reply, "bash: ismod: command not found"
Is there any futher way you could be of help? Thanks again.

I think the command is lsmod: lima sierra mike oscar delta.

You may have to run the command as root or with sudo.

also you need to be root to use that command - if they installed in on the computer.

and you will find that linpus light is the #1 WORST distro in the world

the ONLY software that will NOT kill it is on the limpus web site
DO NOT DO NOT install ANY fedora 8 rpm's on it
it was incompatible with -- the now retired/dead fedora8-- and any of the fedora8 rmp's floating around might cause the computer to NEVER BOOT AGAIN!!!

I would get a copy of a ubuntu "netbook" install disk and remove limpus light from the Aspire laptop

That is "LSMOD" in small letters.

I recently bought an Acer Aspire. I don' t normally use the the Linpus OS on it, but I maybe able to help.

When you say you cannot see your files. Are you talking about files on the netbook?

Also connection to your wireless should just work - you should only need to enter the password for your wireless.

I really don't think you should need to use the command prompt, unless you want to do something unusual.

Thanks guyz but when it seems nothing was working, even though your efforts were helpful one way or the other, I eventually installed windows. Thanks a lot guys.
