Core 6 php5 upgrade
I'm trying to get php5 installed on my old core 6 machine and yum gives me the following:

the reason that yum is not working on the old and UNSUPPORTED fedora 6 is that the software repos were moved into the historical archives a LONG time ago
there are no longer in the fedora mirrors . your ONLY option is to build php 5 from source AND ALL OF IT'S dependencies or install the current fedora -- Fedora 11 -- fedora 12 will be out in about 30 days |
please post to the forum and not a private email
=================================================== To email steflik, you can use this online form: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ember&u=261445 OR, by email: mailto:steflik@binghamton.edu This is the message: John; Yup I know it went out of support but didn't know that the mirrors had been archived. Is there such a thing as a FC6 to FC11 upgrade so I don't have to recreate all of the users and databases that have merrily been running on it. Seems like just yesterday that I installed the machine. If I do have to do a fresh install can i just copy over the /home directory and whatever file keeps track of the users? I know I can get away with just copying over the mysql files as i just did that with another machine. I'm an instructor at Binghamton University and am my own SysAdmin. Dick Steflik Binghamton University there is NO "upgrade" from fedora 6 to 11 ( upgrading from 10 to 11 works some of the time ) you will need to do a FRESH install of fedora 11. Quote:

you might be able to copy over the new mysql db files but i don't think it will work 100% corectly. |
If you like the RH style, but want a distro that has long term support/updates, go with CENTOS, which is a free version of RHEL.
For MySQL, I'd recommend a mysqldump and import; I sincerely doubt you could use the raw db files from that far back. |
