Copying from Linux into Word?
I created a text file from ls -l /bin that I need to copy all the permissions listed into a word document. I saved the list from the terminal to the gedit and saved it as bin permissions.txt. I tried right clicking and copying but it did not paste in Word or in Notepad. I also tried ctrl C and ctrl V to copy and paste but that didn't work either. Is this happening because I am working on a virtual machine? Thanks in advance for any assistance offered

yes. the virtual machine and your host machine (I assume windows) do not share a clipboard automatically.

what kind of virtual machine is that? VirtualBox has a feature to share clipboard. Also you may try to copy the file from one host to the other.

It's vSphere Client CentOS 4/5/6 (64-bit) VM Version: 8 I hope I am answering you correctly but this is what is listed on the machine |
and the other host (is virtual too)? Can you copy a file from centos to windows at all? Do they have network?

Wow ok I found some sort of work around for this. I opened up Firefox inside of the virtual machine and it allowed me to open my email so I pasted the contents into my email and EUREKA it pasted! So I opened it up again in Windows and pasted it to Word:D
