PuTTY is just a secure telnet client. You need to use pscp or a GUI program like winscp to transfer files.

but is there any alternative if im using putty to access the linux server to copy the file from the server going here to my windows workstation or vice versa..

I'm do not understand your question.
PuTTY is a secure telnet client for remote access control. If you want to copy files from the windows PC to the linux PC you use psftp which is a secure FTP client or pscp which is a command line copy. A windows GUI secure FTP application is called winscp.
