Your installed filesystem is configured for your current machine's hardware, it wouldn't work properly on another machine

however you can backup your entire filesysem using dd command :

dd if=/dev/hda1 of=/backup/backup.bak.dd

replace hda1 with your linux partition

Only if the source and destination machines are both virtual, not real. Eventually we need to run real machines.

hi.
at the moment the installation is in visrtualbox and i would like to create an img.gz and put it in /dev/sdb (4.0gb).
here is the system in virtual box.

[root@elastix ~]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
4.3G 1.7G 2.4G 42% /
/dev/hda1 99M 19M 75M 20% /boot
tmpfs 125M 0 125M 0% /dev/shm
[root@elastix ~]#

any ideas on how to copy it to a cf card and then move it to a different machine?
