write access using the ntfs module is not builtin, and it comes with a warning of 'dangerous".
you can do the opposite ,ie, read from ntfs/vfat and write onto your linux partition, and you can write if you have that ntfswrite module loaded/builtin the kernel.

A separate FAT32 partition is a possibility? - both OS's can read/write to/from this filesystem..

I have an alternative. Why not just read the ext3 from windows? This program here: http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/explore2fs.htm can do that with just read access. Now, you can read NTFS from linux and read ext3 from windows...
