Converting Windows to linux..
 

Hi, im completely new too linux, while i was browsing through help files i rember alot of other gamers telling me that linux can run all of there windows games, while i like the features of linux being able too save too muiltpal formats and moving stuff around, how do i get games too work on Linux ??? i have linux mepis 3.3, im still messing around with features on this so if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be great.:newbie:

and, its downloading really really slowly.. Also while im here, network desktop sharing, im wondering is this possible to do with linux too winxp. yes yes i know its some where in the help file.. but i keep finding myself reading what linux can do.. not how too do it... ill figure it out sooner or later. and this also brings me too anther topic some of my old files on my windows partion linux dose not see it... i know they are there. thanks for your time.

you don't see the files or you don't see the partition?
If it's the second chances are it's an ntfs file system and you don't have the ntfs driver installed.

:scratch: Its the first one, some of my game images, and programming stuff i did in windows linux cant seem too see, it can
see everything else. just would have liked too bring over some of my older documents but linux cant see it.. its wierd.

Yeah, windows can see them, but linux cant seem too see it, even though it can see the rest of the drive, it cant see my documentation.

This is odd. Just to make sure we are talking the same language here: when you say 'on the same drive' I suppose you actually mean 'on the same partition' because there can be multiple `partitions on one single (hard disk) drive.

First, make sure your Nautilus/Konqueror shows you all the hidden files as well. (files beginning with a .). If that still dowesn't show them use the terminal, become root (su - ) use the cd command to go to the correct directory and do ls -al. That should show everything there is, even if it is hidden or only accessible to root.

:Pengy: i can asscess the partion and see the rest of the files,but its one of my documents folders wich i use quiet frequently on windows that linux just cant see.
and yeah, thanks for the help... but its just like its not there, but windows 2000
can read it fine?.. so is there any kind of file restrictions on linux that stop things from bring into editing? ( the folder contains .doc's .rtf .dgt )

not that I am aware of. Onnly the 'hidden' files that start with a dot.
