converting vob files

I have vob files that i want to convert to something smaller so that i can watch the movie on my phone. What is an easy way to go about this?

Transcoding... many different options... Need more info... What kind of phone,... OS, chipset, mpeg acceleration capabilities?!?!?

"vob" is just a container format, a variation of mpeg2-ps designed specifically for dvd video. The media inside is nearly always mpeg2 video and either ac3, mp2, or pcm audio.

Assuming the vob has already been ripped from a dvd (or is otherwise stand-alone), you should be able to simply convert it directly to another format using any one of a number of media converters. Call up google or the LQ search and look for "Linux video convert" or similar keywords.

Search on LQ. I've answered this several times in depth, so have others.
