converting from ogg to mp3
 

anyone know of a good program for hitting a directory of ogg files and converting to mp3?

There's nothing of use in that search that you have defined. There are plenty of posts regarding mp3 to ogg conversion but I didn't see anything regarding ogg to mp3.

Anybody have any helpful suggestions?

You could have looked at the ideas presented in
some of the threads ... and used the "reverse tools"
to do the job :P

man oggdec
man lame

oggdec *
will convert to wav
bladenc *.wav
lame *.wav
etc...
will convert to MP3. You can, of course, specify quality options in your MP3 encoder.

NOTE: If you oggdec 500 files, you are going to get ~500X35 meg files or 17.5 Gig of wavs, so don't go too crazy with the * option. :)
