Converting .c to a .o file?

I am very new to linux and need some help. I need to take the Linux files I got with my DLink DFE-530TX+ and get them to produce a .o file. I got a .c, a readme (no help), and a .c file with this card and dont know what to do now. I need the .o file so that I can add that to a set of linux drivers that will be used with Novell's Imaging Server. I know very little here about Linux, but am tring to learn. Anyone help please!?

well the fact that you're stuck trying to "convert" the file is a good sign that you really don't want to be doing this sort of thing, whatever it actaully is you want to do.... but hey i say the rest of what i'd keep saying in that other thread, so why not acutally read it and ask questions based on what i already say there...??

i'm pretty sure that dlink nic support is already in your system. always assume your devices are already supported before looknig for external drivers.

I forgot you were never new to all this either. I read the other post and the directions and am just a little lost. I need the .o file so I can take that to a differnt machine and compile them all into specialized boot disks.

well you really need to give more useful information in the posts you make...what are you lost about? i can appreciate that it can even be hard to know what you're confused about, but once you're simply used to the way that linux works you realise you don't need external driver disks or anything. i had a quick search on google.com (it's handy...) and apparently your card should run fine with the generic trl8139 or 8139too driver (check that the card has a little chip on it with a crab picture and 8139 written on it.) using netconfig or whatever app you want, just use that driver

Scotty.. calm down a little. We all know what it is like to be new at Linux. We had our struggles and glorys like everyone else. Also, dont be so defensive. We try to have fun here while learning.. dont take offence to kewpsters comments because he is not trying to be offensive.

All he is saying is to make your questions more specifc... this only helps others understand what you want to do and help out faster. Also, try to remember to run a search for your problem before posting... double posting is frowned on as it causes repetitivness and our moderators get very...........annoyed. I myself am a victim of double posting. Trickykid got me on that one I believe.

However, I will throw in my two cents as well. Your particular Dlink NIC should work easily by using the modules he stated above. I double checked on my own work PC which has the same. If you cannot get them to work, it is possible you need to install those modules and activate them for starting up at boot.

Yea maybe that came off sounds a bit hard. I appolgize. Its just been one of those kinda days, I am sure you can relate. Anyway thanks for the help. I did end up getting what I needed. Now I will just be adding them to my Novell ZENWorks Imaging boot disks.
