Console Question - [Importent]
Hey,
i just installed Mandrake 10.1 and after rebooting it asks me for os....i choose linux and after loading a bit a console opens like in msdos and after i enter the before entered login and username it says username@localhost and i dont know what to do i just want to boot normally and use mandrake?! Thank you ! |
You need to be a bit clearer about what used to happen and what is currently happening. Did you used to get a graphical login? Do you have to login at all now to get the "username@localhost" prompt?
It could be that your /etc/inittab file has gotten altered. Open that file in a console text editor like pico and look for a line like this: id:4:initdefault: If the number is something other than 4 or 5, you need to change it to 5. That should get you back to booting in graphical mode. |
hey,
thanks for your answere... it says: localhost login: <here i enter my username> then i press enter... password: <now i enter my password> then i press enter again username@localhost ------------------------------------ im really 100% noob in that mandrake stuff and dunno what to do exactly, pls help thx :newbie: |

hello,
now i wrote down the exact phrase it gives me....so there is a black box with this content: Mandrakelinux release 10.1 (RC1) for i586 Kernel 2.6.8.1-8mdksmp on a Dual-processor i686 /tty1 [username@localhost username]$ |
pls help i really need to get it work fast!
thx |
did you try " startx " ?

Mandrake should boot into X (GUI) by default, so you either chose an unusual option during the installation or something is messed up. Maybe X tries to load but doesn't start sucessfully.
