Console (Not X) widescreen resolution

Hello all,

I have a widescreen 20" LCD which loves to run at 1680x1050, but getting my console to reproduce this is rather difficult. I have been spending hours googling and trawling other forums to no avail :(

I use Slackware and Lilo and have put a vast array of vga values in and it has accepted none of them unfortunately.

Does anyone know how I can get my resolution? In any X window manager it is simple to do, but I still use the command line a lot and the huge fonts I am getting aren't helping me out.

Thanks in advance

Take a look at an application called SVGATextMode:

and:

http://freshmeat.net/projects/svgatextmode/

This application will give you the maximum flexibility in setting your textmode screen resolution.
