Connecting to RH Modem from Windows
Help I want to use the Redhat box as follows :
[Windows XP] ---> TCP/IP or SAMBA ---> [Redhat 9.0] ---> Modem ---> end. I want to create "virtual com ports" or something on my XP machine and use a certian app to dial an end point Redhat 9 must then actually use a modem on /dev/ttyS0 to dial the end point ... Windows must think it's got a modem installed but actually it is on the Redhat box. The end results will be to have a modem bank ( 2 or 3 modems ) on the redhat box and let 10 Windows XP machines use it as if they had modems connected to them. Any help will be appreciated. |
I assume you mean internet sharing via the redhat box. You will need to build a NAT with port forwarding, a dns caching/resolving server, and I believe diald will help you to dial on demand.
Try these links below. http://www.shorewall.net - iptables configuration software for firewalling. http://diald.sourceforge.net - dial on demand daemon. http://dag.wieers.com/packages/dnsmasq - dns caching server. |
not to the internet
I am actually want to dial into SUN Solaris boxes all over the show ...
I have 10 technicians with Windows XP machines , I want to use my Redhat Box in the server room , connect 2 or 3 modems onto it and let the guys use that "modem bank" to dial out to the clients , thus no need to give all of them analog lines etc. Regards Len |
