All it is is a router I think. Open up a Terminal and post the output.
sudo ifconfig sudo ifconfig -a |
when you say open up a terminal....Where??How??. I haven't used linux before and don't know what you mean.

On the top left Applications => Accessories => Terminal
This should help; http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Intrepid http://www.unixguide.net/linux/linuxshortcuts.shtml http://www.downloadsquad.com/2008/01...-the-terminal/ Most of all enjoy and if you have any more questions, ask away :) |
ahaa it gets interesting because I dont have a 'terminal' in the accessories list. What do I do now?

All versions of Linux have a terminal--it just is sometimes called something else. Look in all your menus for "terminal", "console", or something similar. It's there---trust us.
Another method is to enter ctrl-alt-F1 (or maybe F2 or F3). This will put you in terminal (command-line) mode. Is the modem a device that connects to the cell phone network? (Not if it is really going to a satellite.) Also, who is the ISP (Internet Service Provider) that provides the connection? Finally, this Google search has lots of info, including a Ubuntu discussion: http://www.google.com/search?q=ipsta...S177US235&aq=t |
