Connecting my Linux desktop to the internet via wireless router/DSL

I'm still learning this platform and though frequently frustrated it's STILL better than windows.

Could someone assist me with a "how to" on getting my Linux desktop to see my wireless signal? I just got Verizon DSL and so far my wireless laptop Windows XP can get on just fine but I have no clue how to go about setting up the Linux one. I'm running Kubuntu (I'm sure someone assisting me will ask). I'd appreciate a simple click here, click there, check this box off, leave this one alone kind of directions...I think I can handle something like that

Well the first thing would be figuring out what WLAN hardware you are using. Do you know what the wireless device is? Or at least what model laptop you have (assuming it is built in).

Better yet, does the system already detect your wireless device?

The wireless device is Linksys (G series I think). The laptop isn't the one with Linux, it's my desktop, but if it helps my laptop is an older model HP. (Can't remember exactly, I'm at work and not looking at my laptop ) My desktop is a custom built machine, no brand name. I am not sure of the card inside, I'll have to look when I get home.

Regarding your second question: /shrug is my only answer. I've always had it hardwired and had the other computers wireless. I still might try this seeing as I was informed the Verizon tech gave me improper directions on setting it up in the first place...asked another techy friend of mine.

Part of my problem is that I'm so new to Linux/Kubuntu that I'm just not used to the interface so I don't even know where to go to trouble shoot things like wireless access. /sigh
