Connecting Linux VM to Windows 2008 Active Directory

I have a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Client release 5.3 virtual machine (VM). It needs to authenticate user logins against a Windows 2008 Server Active Directory. How do I do that?

I have setup "Identity Management for Unix" on the Windows 2008 Active Directory.

What do I need to do in my Linux VM? Can anyone provide detailed simple instructions for a Linux newbie? Also, do I need a "Linux server"? My VM is not a "server" VM.

Someone suggested that I look into using samba and PAM (see The website talks about using Windows 2003 server. I don't know if it works for 2008. Also, since samba is not installed in my VM, I would need to get the rpm(s). There appears to be many flavors of samba and I don't know which ones I need. Also, are there other packages that I would need?

I didn't know which forum to pose the question, so excuse me if this is not the correct one.

samba / winbindd is the right approach. There were really simple ways to just use AD as an LDAP server, but the extensions for posix attributes and the likes have fallen (AFAIK) into disrepair. The packages available through yum on redhat will do everything you need, no need to worry about versions etc.
