connect /tmp/.X11-unix/X0: Connection refused

A couple of days ago both of my servers started acting up.
When I trying to edit a file using gedit I get the following messages:

$ gedit test.txt
connect /tmp/.X11-unix/X0: Connection refused
connect /tmp/.X11-unix/X0: Connection refused
connect /tmp/.X11-unix/X0: Connection refused

(gedit:14854): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: localhost:10.0
I can get around this gedit error by using vi, but my PERL/Tk programs also get the same errors when trying to open a window.
I am running on Fedora release 14 on one server and 17 on the other server.
Both machines were working fine last week.
Any help would be appreciated.

This problem has been resolved.
I deleted and reinstalled Cywin on my laptop using the mirror.
I included all the X11 and SSH packages.
Now everything works.
Thanks everybody!!!
