connect linux os to data projector


I teach and need to connect my linux os laptop to the data projector.
I do have the hdmi connection. That does not work properly.
Think it is a software problem.

Well, since all you've told us is you have Linux and a laptop with an HDMI port, what do you think we'll be able to tell you?? We need details; version/distro of Linux, what kind of hardware, what error(s)/message(s) you're seeing, and what you've done/tried thus far. We cannot guess...read the "Question Guidelines" link in my posting signature.

Look at display settings and activate it? That is about all i got at the moment.

I think that is all the OP needs to do. When I plug in a monitor or projector to the HDMI port it is automatically activated by Linux. The OP may also need to select the proper input on the projector but otherwise it is mostly foolproof.

On gnome if you set the displays to 'mirrored' it just works.
