Configuring XFree86 to find my monitor

Hi.

Im running slackware 9.1 and am trying to get startx going.

I have configured it to my hardware, and my monitor with the correct horizontal and verticle refresh rates.

However, when i type startx it doesnt work properly because it 'cannot find screen'.

Do you know how i might fix this?

Thanks.

Check your video card drivers, most likely you chose wrong when choosing your video card model/make. also try lowering your monitor modes as its possible you are tring to run it in a resolution it does not support. also, make sure that your horizontal and vertical rates are setup properly. some older monitors literally blew up when misconfiguered. As a final advice: download knoppix and boot your system with it. you can then either check what it autodetected or even copy the xconfig file to your harddrive and use it.

If i boot with morphix, where will xconfig be?

likely in /etc/X11/XF86config or somesuch. try using 'find' or 'locate' if its not there
