Configuring permissions for VSFTPD

Following instructions from this site I was able successfully install VSFTP. Using local users I am able to remotely connect to the FTP server. What I can't do is transfer files to and from the server. I'm guessing that its a permissions issue but I'm not sure. I am using CentOS 6.5.

I'm sure this must be a simple thing but I am new to Linux.

Have you checked the firewall?
You sure the FTP port you are using is open?

Have you checked the vsftpd logs? Did you enable logging in the vsftpd.conf file?

Need a little more info to be more helpful.

Yeah as I stated we were able to connect to the FTP server without issue - browse around through the file system. Firewall not an issue. Yes logging was enabled. In fact those are the files that I am trying to transfer off of the server - the logs.
