Configure yum in RHEL 5.1

Haii...

I have installed RHEL 5.1 on my PC
I would like to know how to configure the yum repo
I know how to add that in /etc/yum.repo.d/name.repo
But am little confused on the base url that I can provide

Can anyone let me know some free baseurls that I can use ??
Not sure if base urls are something that I should pay :(
Hope the above will make a picture in your mind about my knowledge in yum.....

To be precise am trying to
1 Install vlc player
2 Trying to connect to ntfs from linux.

I tried with some baseurls for vlc and ntfs-3g packages.

I could install ntfs-3g but couldnot access NTFS partition...
About VLC I have to install a lot of dependencies..

so planing to try something like yum....

If any one have some better suggestions you are welcome :)

In order to access RH's repos you have to pay($). Centos is RHEL with the logos removed. It is built from the same source code (sans logos) and therefore is binary compatible with RHEL. Centos is free to download/update. Look at www.centos.org.

If you're willing to pay, use RHEL as installed, except there is no supported driver for NTFS for legal reasons.
If you want free, install CENTOS, and look at the 'EPEL' repo http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL for non-official items.
