configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check HELP

I keep getting this error when I try to ./configure a program (gimp).
I have downloaded gcc2.96-2.96-0.83mdk.src.rpm and tried to install it but I also get an error also "Some package requested cannot be installed:
gcc2.96-2.96-0.83mdk.src (due to unsatisfied bison[<= 1.35])
do you agree ? " Which i choose Yes. What am i doing wrong or do I have something screwed up??? I have installed all the components that have gcc in the title on my Mandrake 10 CDs restarted but sill same errors.
Any suggestions?????

You need to install cpp (c preprocessor) that's why you get the /lib/cpp error

Is that on the mandrake disk??? I did a search in packages for cpp and didn't find anything. Thanks for the help

hello

First find out the gcc version and also check out the man pages of it... after u get the version try to load a version thats latest i guess the latest is gcc 3. something i think that should be able to solve it........ just check u r loading a new version and not a old one on new.......
